Problems installing System Center Essentials 2010
Posted on July 5, 2010
So, I spent 16 irreplaceable hours of my life trying to install System Center Essentials 2010 on both Server 2003 and Server 2008, both systems gave me the same, unhelpful error.
Here is the SCE setup log
- MSI (s) (68:88) [15:42:11:574]: Invoking remote custom action. DLL: C:WindowsInstallerMSIDD55.tmp, Entrypoint: AddPrivilegesToActionsAccount

What can we conclude from that? Nothing. Nothing at all.
So, anyway, theres you trying to be proactive an use SCE to receive updates for itself and other products. Microsoft says no.
On the "Help improve System Center Essentials" part of the install, uncheck the box "Use Microsoft Update to receive updates to this and other Microsoft products" and try to install again.
Obvious really, if you don't think about it.

Anyone figure out why though? Is this only during the setup phase, because later during the WSUS configuration it shows the complete list of MS apps to be checked and the default is to check them all. [I found this post first and unchecked the box for my install and didn't have any problems...
