Installing Windows Server 2008 on PERC 4/DC

Posted on January 25, 2010

Got an older server like a Dell PowerEdge 2850 or a 2900 that you want to install Windows Server 2008 on?
You'll need to provide extra drivers for Windows to see the PERC RAID array.

I downloaded the Windows 2003 PERC 4/DC drivers from Dell.

Don't worry that it says LSI Logic PERC 4e or something, it has all the drivers on it. Extract them to a USB memory stick. You'll come to a point in the Windows 2008 installation where it says it cannot find a drive to install Windows on to.
Simply put in the memory stick and select Add Drivers. It works quite well, unlike XP and Server 2003.

All done. You'll be able to add/delete partitions and install Windows 2008 server.
